Sadly we said this some months ago, and were greeted with the usual abuse and derision, not to mention accusations of being tims. Par for the course really.
But yes, it is now official – Michael Beale was a better manager for Rangers. He signed better players, and had a better record.
And we all, Ibrox Noise included, disliked him and his lies intensely, and wouldn’t have him back if you paid us.
But that’s how far Philippe Clement has sunk – he is definitely, categorically, and humiliatingly worse than Beale on every level as a Rangers manager, and we’re deeply depressed that we’ve something worse than the car salesman AND Pedro currently in our dugout.
Heart and Hand were fair in their assessment – they said:
“The lack of quality is down to the board.
The lack of organisation is down to the manager.
The lack of fight is down to the players.”
That’s a fair summation, on the face of it.
But the lack of quality being down to the board can be disputed by the late, great Walter Smith who with £2M in January 2007 made Rangers, overnight, the best team in Scotland with just 4 signings, 3 being Bosmans. You can still get the right players with next-to-no money. If you know what you’re doing.
Organisation, absolutely. Clement doesn’t have a clue how to manage our club. 5 Old Firm fails, and getting embarrassingly worse with each, shows he’s the wrong man.
Fight and players? That’s because the players aren’t doing it for the manager – not because they don’t want to, but because the tactics kill the gameplan quickly and the players lose hope fast.
We’re not (deliberately) blaming everything on Clement, this club’s problems (probably) run deeper, but they ran deeper in late 2006 under Paul Le Guen as well and hey presto those 4 signings from Walter and we were the best in the country again. No problems any more.
The suits don’t get any spotlight on them if results are good. And they always were under Walter.
We know we’re stuck in the past here on Ibrox Noise, but Walter was a God, and his Godliness was based on a basic understanding of football.
Clement, like so many, doesn’t get that basic understanding, and stubbornly persists with things that provably don’t work. Very Warburton-esque.
So, yes, sadly, Beale and even Pedro are now better than Clement is.
If Rangers stick by him second place is far from assured.
