As Ibrox Noise has been reporting, Rangers are very much interested in the free agency market, it being deemed that the window past didn’t yield enough of an overhaul with the club seeking further additions in the Bosman market, and it has emerged that Rangers missed out on a very strong signing.
Ajax star Davy Klaasen has elected to return to his Amsterdam roots at the Arena having left Internazionale as a free agent this summer, and Rangers made a major play for the attacking midfielder’s signature.
He rejected the opportunity as reported by transfer guru Nicolò Schira, alongside a bid from Belgian giants Royal Antwerp, and will instead return home to Holland with Ajax.

Rangers are a bit more outfitted in his position now, with Tom Lawrence and Nadim Bejrami currently Rangers’ options in the 10, but Klaasen really would have been quite the upgrade and addition to Rangers’ ranks, had Philippe Clement persuaded the Dutch international his future lay in Govan.
It would certainly have been the big signing of the summer for sure, but as it is, Rangers didn’t really make any marquee signings of any ‘big names’.
Klaasen certainly would have been that for sure.
As it is Rangers remain with Bejrami and Lawrence as playmakers, Todd Cantwell long gone and Ianis Hagi frozen out.
It’s not a slot teaming with tonnes of options but at least Rangers have a couple now.
Pity it wasn’t that third one too.
