There is little denying that Rangers manager Philippe Clement’s position has fallen under the most scrutiny since he joined the club last October.

After that brilliant start, albeit including the 3-3 to Celtic, the wheels fell off for the Belgian around March, and they’ve never been restored but what fans saw those first 4 or so months has persuaded the lion’s share that he’s the right man.

Ibrox Noise has carried out a few polls, to gauge ongoing opinion for such a dynamic topic, much like election polls measure ongoing views rather than just a single one.

And post-Old Firm, fans wanted him gone. 5 days later, fans wanted him to stay. And another 5 days later, this was still the case.

Of course you get several individual trying to discredit the polls when they don’t get the result they want, but the fans have spoken.

Following that emotional reaction last Sunday, Rangers fans have settled into a majority backing the boss, and criticising the players and board.

Once again, Rangers fans stay loyal to their manager with a cult-like consistency, believing him to be the answer and the problems are everything aside him.

We’re not going to debate or argue this point, we’re just bringing the results and general consensus here.

These polls were all around 2,000 votes, and while the first one was 73% against, the two days later were both 75% or so in favour of Clement.

So he does have supporter backing.

That said, that backing has absolutely gone down from the ~95% it was around 6 weeks ago, with a much stronger base for those who have misgivings about Clement. They have grown by 30% and his popularity is not as untouchable as it used to be.

We do think his post-Old-Firm confrontation with the fans didn’t help his case at all, and has hurt his popularity a lot, not to mention the overall results this season.

Bear in mind Rangers’ results this season are abysmal. Just 3 wins (in all competitions inc. friendlies) since May is a dire atrocity for Rangers to be in, and the club is rightly in fourth in the league. The table doesn’t lie. It adjusts, but at no time does it ever lie.

6 losses 4 draws and 3 wins including friendly results is a staggering number, and vastly inferior to anything from Michael Beale or Pedro.

But the fans back Clement, or at least, don’t blame him for where Rangers are.

That’s falling on the players and the board.
