We had to laugh more than a bit at the DR trying to use Celtic’s Champions League match against Rangers’ sponsorship, in an attempt to pour cold water over the fact they didn’t get the exclusive story of Rangers’ new deal.

As we know, Rangers secured some excellent partnership and sponsorships lately, Elior and Kindred taking potential yearly revenue from shirts and catering up to a solid £5M. Sure, some conditions need to be met first, but if they are, Rangers bank a good chunk of change.

So what did the DR do? ‘Boasted’/attacked Rangers by saying Celtic made more in one night in the Champions League than Rangers’ new shirt deal is worth.

Well… NO SH*T SHERLOCK!

They also made more in one night than their OWN shirt deal is worth!

Rangers and Celtic both now make around £3M per year on shirt sponsorship, and Champions League nights at Ibrox alone make well well over £3M due to gate receipts, catering and other revenue – with the extra 10,000 punters Celtic fit in they’re closer to £4M for theirs, so yes, shock horror, Celtic made more from that one night.

Just like Rangers did during our three home matches in the Champions League in 2022.

This really was a negative headline for the absolute petty-minded sake of it, just a negative headline to get green-minded clicks and those seeing red of a Rangers persuasion, based on something of frivolous click bait nature. We’re pretty sure their not getting the sponsorship story was a big part of it.

Sure, it’s the Glasgow goldfish bowl and we do know how it works, but we’d expect that kind of trash journalism from a Celtic-minded publication (lord knows, enough of them fill up our Rangers newsfeeds as it is) not a supposedly neutral newspaper.

That really was scraping the barrel of rubbish journalism.
