There’s been a little bit in the press about James Tavernier suddenly buying a £1M flat in Glasgow therefore ‘he must be staying’, with the clickbait press leaping on this immediately as proof he’s going nowhere.

There are two problems with this:

From what we understand, Tavernier bought this flat months ago, in Spring, and secondly, many many footballers with money invest in property.

It doesn’t mean they’re staying with their current club.

James Tavernier, thanks to Rangers, is a wealthy wealthy man, earning around £37,000pw, and has been for some time.

This has meant his yearly salary is in the region of £2M a year, and he’s been earning with Rangers for a decade. He’s definitely built up the bank balance, that’s for sure.

And his investing in property with his wife has absolutely no impact on whether he remains in Scotland or not – once he’s bought the thing, he will use as he deems fit, whether it’s flipping, renting, whatever it is.

Big property moguls have invested all over the world, regardless of their own ‘headquarters’ and Tavernier decided earlier this year to buy that flat, and that’s his business.

It has no impact on whether he stays or leaves Rangers – that one is in the hands of the Gods for now, with speculation continuing about his instructing agents to discuss with Turkish and Qatari clubs.

We will learn by the 13th if Tav is to remain at Ibrox for the season or not.

It’s a divisive topic, but his buying a flat has no bearing on it.
