Was Malmo finally Mohamed Diomande’s long-awaited entry into Rangers?

Rangers fans have been waiting for the Ivorian to finally step up and properly deliver on his price tag, his ample £4.5M price tag no less.

Bear in mind fans have already been impressed by Hamza Igamane (£2.5M) and Nedim Bajrami (£3.5M) with those two arriving this summer, but £4.5M Diomande has convinced a lot less supporters with rather indifferent performances since January.

Indeed, the former Nordsjælland midfielder was actually dropped for some recent matches, manager Philippe Clement preferring other options and bringing the 22-year-old on later as a sub.

But his performance in Malmo gave fans a much-needed glimpse of what he can actually do with the right focus and display.

His passing was excellent, his ball-winning was convincing, and as Ibrox Noise rated him 8, his partnership at last with Connor Barron was much more in tune.

Diomande finally looked much more the part, and it took a big occasion for the African player to deliver a little bit on his price tag potential.

We saw this last season in the cups – Dio stood out a bit more in the domestic KO competitions for some reason, shining in some matches in later stages of those tournaments, but this was a much bigger arena.

Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen paid £4.5M for Dio, which makes him one of the bigger investments since Rangers were promoted. He was big money.

In Sweden he actually looked like he was worth that investment, and we are sure we speak for all Rangers fans by very much hoping that this continues!
