Interim Rangers chairman John Gilligan has dismissed former Three Bears colleague Dave King’s demand for an EGM by offering his own support for the current board, in what is a clear split between two former allies.

Speaking at his first press conference in the role, the acting head of Rangers said this on King’s recent comments:

“Dave King is a major shareholder, he can say what he wants, but it’s unrealistic (as is the EGM) as we don’t want to call an EGM because this board are happy with forward plans. It’s only destabilising if we don’t have a plan, we have a plan, Dave can say what he wants.”

For those who wanted King back, it isn’t happening, and while Ibrox Noise was slightly more generous with our assessment of King and a potential return, we were also very suspicious of his reasons, because he’s well known as a media manipulator who has ulterior motives for most of what he says in the press.

Gilligan is outright rejecting him, and defending the board, which includes Alastair Johnston and Graeme Park, meaning if King wants to be chairman/power, he’s going to have to actually put his hands in his pockets and buy the current shareholders out.

He’s not going to do that.

Fans don’t like this board, but fans are stuck with them because unlike previously, King doesn’t have the ability to force an EGM, nor does anyone else. He also doesn’t have the support within the shareholders to win such a thing.

Gilligan is officially distancing himself from his old mate and it seems like the acting chairman is in line with the current incumbents, and not any Return of the King.

And fans are just going to have to accept that.
