Ryan Jack celebrates with his new Turkish team mates.

We have to spare a thought for ex-Ranger Ryan Jack, who ended up so desperate for football, for a new club, that he accepted a low-pay deal from Turkish second division minnows Erokspor and got booked 10 minutes into his debut.

The Istanbul side, not exactly one of Turkey’s capital’s giants, sit second bottom of the nation’s second tier by way itself of the fact that the bottom side are suffering a points deduction.

So it’s not exactly a lucrative move for Jack, who struggled for the best part of three months to find a club, putting himself out there on all Scottish media as much as he could just to keep his profile up.

Jack, when fit and able, is a titanic midfielder, a major reason Rangers won 55 and he deserves better than a backwater like this club, whose stadium is barely 5,500 capacity.

But this is what injury does – years and years of non-stop ailments and Jack couldn’t tempt anyone better because of the giant risk factor.

If he can manage a season in Turkey (why is it always Turkey…) without injury, maybe he will be able to get a better move.

But for now it’s about playing football – Jack has already made his money in football – 7 years of an average of £10,000pw means he won’t be short of a few quid.

But footballers don’t want to just quit unless they don’t have to, and like the rest of us, they like to be earning a salary.

So we do wish the boy well out there, and that he can be injury-free this season, and maybe get the better move to a decent club in a decent league that he deserves.

Unlike Kemar Roofe, at least he got a club.
