Rangers fans have confirmed today, overwhelmingly, that they’d like former chairman Dave King back in the hotseat after the ex-Ibrox chief firmly threw his hat in the ring to do the job again.

Speaking to the media widely yesterday, King announced his desire to do the job again ‘for two years’ after former chairman John Bennett was ordered by his doctor to quit the position.

It was abundantly clear Bennett had too much on his plate and it has affected his health – we can only wish him the very best in his recovery.

But it has opened the door to King, who had this to say:

“I think I might be the best person to do it for two years. I don’t want to do it for four or five years. But I know the club well enough and I do think it’s a two-year job. I’d be willing to do it. Yes, I would. I understand what’s involved. I’ll come in, stabilise it, get the right people in place, get the club working properly, at least give it direction, give it a plan. But part of that will be for me to find new investors who will come in and make a significant investment in the club. My thoughts have always been not to (return as chairman), because I felt I’d done my crisis. Quite frankly, I didn’t expect a crisis to happen again in my lifetime. But a stranger can’t come in.”

A stranger can’t come in – we’d actually agree with this.

And it seems fans do too.

In an Ibrox Noise poll 92% of those polled favoured King’s return, with the possibility that John Halsted has investment coming in as well, so the rumour wires are saying right now.

Just 3% said no to King, with 5% undecided.

Rangers desperately need stability, and if King is willing to take this ‘mess’ on, we say fair play to him.

We’re sure we’ll moan about this and that from him in due course, but right now Rangers are a real state at boardroom level.

Hopefully King can smooth it over. If he does return.
