It is understood according to Ibrox Noise sources that despite the best match of his career at Rangers last weekend, Rabbi Matondo remains on course for his exit out of Ibrox, with Blackburn continuing to negotiate with his representatives.

The big issue with Matondo, as with departed Ben Davies, is his wages, with them around £28,000-£34,000 depending on who you believe. We at Ibrox Noise understanding them to be around £30,000.

This is a number few lower league sides are happy with, but Matondo is understood to be keen on more first team minutes and he’s not going to get that at Rangers, despite his heroics at the weekend.

Unfortunately that performance came too late, and against opposition too modest for it to mean much, and like with the case of Davies, Blackburn are not under the premise of FFP et al and can afford to pay Matondo his desired salary.

This is veering more towards a loan at the present moment, although Rangers are content with selling for an acceptable price, but alas Matondo hasn’t had a reprieve and Philippe Clement indeed baited Rovers (or anyone else) into bidding the required amount for his signature.

The club are said to be happy with £3M for Matondo, given he is young, quick, and has a tonne of potential, but has clearly struggled with the weight of Rangers’ shirt.

One good display since July 2022 is definitely not enough for Rangers or the £3M investment the club made in him, or the appalling £1.5M wage per year he is on.

He’s not been value, even if he is a likable guy and has a lot of talent.

We’ll see if this one gets over the line before Friday’s deadline.
