Rangers are close to finally offloading Todd Cantwell after talks were slated to take place between himself, representatives and Blackburn Rovers, with manager John Eustace confirming he’s interested in the playmaker.
With a few days left of the window, the Ewood Park chief and Cantwell are said to be chatting today, with Sky Sports confirming the meeting to take place as soon as possible.
On the topic, Eustace said:
“I certainly am very hopeful, you can see tonight we still short in a few areas. Hopefully, the club can bring in the right players to give that competition for places. The recruitment team are working very hard. Todd is someone that has been spoken about. He is a Rangers player and I don’t like to talk about players at other clubs too much. Todd is a Rangers player, he’s a very good player but we’ve got five of six other good players on the list. We want to bring in good players to the club.”
Cantwell would give his right arm for this move, and Rangers will happily recoup what we spent, the circa £2M transfer fee in January 2023. In theory he could have been worth a lot lot more, but the main purpose is to get his £25,000pw wage off Rangers’ bill and use it elsewhere.
Cantwell is a lad who, under the right manager, could still be a special player. Rangers aren’t the right club and Clement definitely not the right boss, and Cantwell is young enough that he can still achieve his ambitions.
Someone needs to screw the boy’s head on. And maybe that someone is Eustace.
