As Ibrox Noise has reported a few times, Scott Wright has been told he can leave Rangers, with mainstream media claiming the same story, Chris Jack particularly revealing this one today, as Birmingham moved in.
The ‘problem’ Rangers have had with Wright is his versatility and rarely ever being injured – add to that he’s a likeable chap who’s popular at Ibrox and his departure was not being actively sought.
But his limitations are well-documented and he’s been fundamentally told he is free to leave, and that he won’t be a huge player for Rangers this season.
Philippe Clement has been seeking attackers on the wing this campaign, with Vaclav Cerny arriving on top of Wright, McCausland, Cortes, Matondo and arguably Jefte, but Wright’s flexibility made him useful in recent seasons.
Rangers lack left wingers, and Wright’s impact from the bench is well-known.
But Rangers seek to go up a level, with talent of a higher level than Wright, and he has been told he is free to find a new club.
Wright is not a high earner, said to be around £8,000pw, so his weight on the payroll is not substantial.
But Rangers do seek some exits this week, although none have actually materialised yet. Neither have any of the promised incomings, as it stands.
But Wright will leave if a buyer can be found, with claims that Birmingham, fresh from Ben Davies on loan, would also like Wright too.
We’ll see if another deal can be struck before deadline day on Friday.
