Rangers to make ‘big announcement’ on Friday
Former Rangers Chairman John Bennett. We wish him well.

Rangers are set to make a big announcement on Friday, with speculation rampant a new CEO has been found by chairman John Bennett and his name to be revealed at the end of the working week.

Word is it’s to be Andrew McKinlay, currently Hearts’ counterpart for that role at Tynecastle, but we can’t confirm that yet.

All we know is Rangers have been running rudderless since James Bisgrove left, with his departure setting in motion a chain of events that has led to a truly awful preseason and diabolical start to the new campaign.

This doesn’t even mention the sickening Ibrox shambles that has punctuated all things going wrong with the club.

With Friday’s reported announcement, fans will be hoping for good news, albeit whether they’d consider taking Hearts’ CEO to be good news is another matter.

The reality is, like any fans, if the results on the pitch are good, the board tends to be left alone – but these days that’s not the case and Bennett is especially getting it in the neck over many things going south at Rangers right now.

So he will hope appointing a CEO with a well-documented professional past and credibility for the role will aid in that.

We do urge caution – the last time we made a wee club’s CEO our own equivalent was Stuart Robertson, previously head of Motherwell. That spell was far from impressive.

So if McKinlay is the man, he’d better hope things start to shine quickly for him and the club otherwise he’ll be next for the (immature) ‘out’ memes that dog the current board.

We’ll see if this is indeed announced on Friday after all.
