Rangers secure £3M profit as Jose Cifuentes departs
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - NOVEMBER 30: Jose Cifuentes of Rangers is challenged by Julius Szoeke of Aris Limassol during the UEFA Europa League match between Rangers FC and Aris Limassol FC at Ibrox Stadium on November 30, 2023 in Glasgow, Scotland. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)

As we reported some time ago, Jose Cifuentes’ effectively permanent exit from Rangers is nearly secured, as the Ecuadorian gets ready to complete his medical in Greece, having arrived there a day or so ago in preparation for his switch to Aris Thessalonika.

And of course the big story that Ibrox Noise brought you a week or two ago was the fee, a tremendous near-£4.5M transfer kitty that will be activated next summer, with Aris doing what Rangers have with Oscar Cortes and securing a loan-to-buy deal which is obligation.

This means Rangers can budget that extra £4.5M into transfers whenever they like, because the cash is 100% coming in next summer just as it did for Nordsjælland this summer with Rangers’ £4.5M for Mohamed Diomande.

Cifuentes is definitely far from a bad player – strong, with excellent passing. But surprisingly for a player with real power, Scottish football didn’t suit him at all and he didn’t settle.

Unfortunately his Cruzeiro loan didn’t work out at all either and now the Greek giants will take him instead, as a loan, and then get the money our way next summer.

But it’s that profit Rangers are making that we have to tip our hat to – a £1.2M signing and Rangers are making a clean £3M from that, really is a good piece of business alright.

We are very impressed by that.

We have no idea why we moved for Cifu, Rangers’ luck with MLS-based players rarely works out, and Cifu was another fail.

We do wish the boy luck, and well done to the board for getting £3M profit out of this one.

Even if it won’t arrive till next year.
