As Ibrox Noise reported yesterday and the mainstream press caught up with today, yes, Rangers have rejected bids (multiple) for striker Cyriel Dessers, with the big one that got out there being from the MLS and Atlanta United for around £4.5M.

Rangers paid £6 for Dessers, don’t let anyone in the media or otherwise tell you differently. You don’t get a player with Dessers’ stats for three quid, and while some discuss an initial fee, which was indeed £4.5M, the £1.5M was addons and have been paid already.

So he’s a £6M player, and we’re not selling a £6M striker for a loss especially when he’s in excellent form and the arguably best striker in the country.

Yes indeed, sorry Dessers haters, if there’s such a thing, he’s the best hitman in Scotland second only, and debatably, to Hearts’ Lawrence Shankland, who has no goals or assists in three outings this season. Dessers is 4 in 5.

So Rangers would only consider an offer for the Belgian-born Nigerian if it was comfortably in excess of what we paid, and took into consideration the striker’s form too. So Rangers would expect comfortably £8M+.

But then we have no striker, we have literally no hitman up front, because Hamza Igamane seems years from being ready while Danilo is in the same boat.

Dessers is borderline indispensable at the moment, he’s offering us a tonne up front and he’s the only one who can do it.

While he will always have his haters (plenty of Rangers fans still aren’t ‘won over’) Dessers’ contribution is currently irreplaceable and from being a ‘donkey’, as many fans saw him, he’s become vital.

So selling him to the MLS would be very misguided at this point.

Dessers would only go for silly money. £4.5M isn’t silly money.
