Rangers are set to get their first propper glimpse of Robin this weekend after the summer signing confirmed on Friday that his paperwork is finally complete and he’s 100% ready to play.
The former Twente captain, a shock exit from his former employer only a bare week ago, is ready for action, but we were intrigued to hear that Sam Lammers apparently only has positive words to say about us, after the new boy confirmed Lammers and current Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers had both sold him on the move to the club.
We have to say, assuming the ex-Twente lad isn’t bending the truth a speck and saying what we would like to hear, that it’s actually very gracious of Lammers, after a horror spell at the club, and given the further things he said afterwards, to then recommend us to Propper and spin the move positively.
Lammers was the wrong striker at the wrong club, and until this moment hadn’t done anything worthy of any kind of positive words about Rangers – even his press comments about the club had hardly been kind. True, never downright disrespectful or nasty, but definitely cold and aloof at best.
But Propper is now suggesting that Lammers promoted Rangers to him as a good move, and while his own switch to Govan absolutely didn’t work out, the fact he’s showing this kind of grace to big us up and actually promote Propper moving here, even though it would cost his new club their captain and stalwart, is a surprising development and one we didn’t see coming.
Lammers is obviously not a bad guy, but the Rangers move was a disaster, and he knows that.
His career had been dire since PSV recalled him in 2020, and back in the Eredivisie with Utrecht he managed to get form once more.
We’ll see if he can maintain that over to FC Twente, but it appears hugely down to him and Cyriel Dessers that Propper made the call to join Rangers.
A slight twist!
