Despite all the hype of Philippe Clement saying he’d get to the bottom of Rangers’ dire injury situation, the crisis continued into preseason and now the regular season too.
Ibrox Noise takes a sharp intake of breath and sums up our current injuries and where they sit.
Nicolas Raskin:
Rangers’ injury epidemic was clearly still present during preseason after the Belgian midfielder picked up a bad tackle v Ajax and was seen leaving the ground in crutches. It wasn’t a good prognosis and he’s projected to miss all football till the middle of September.
Dujon Sterling:
He’s missed all football for about a month now, most of preseason since the Man Utd match and while he’s included in the Champions League squad to face Kyiv, the manager only hopes to have him back fit tomorrow. Thing is, he’s well off match fitness so there’s no way he (should) start.
Oscar Cortes:
No diagnosis officially yet, but it looked a bad one – rumours circling that it’s an ACL, which would be basically his season done already. Clement had claimed it was ankle, but it looked like hamstring to our luddite selves. Either way, not a good one, and we’ll wait till an official note. Could be on Monday if Clement holds a pre-Kyiv presser.
Hamza Igamane:
Oh the amount of ‘and yet he’s in the Champions League squad’ Ibrox Noise has had from readers after we reported he’s out for some time – 4lads confirmed the boy got an injury around two months ago (with his old club) and has been working one to one on his injury and fitness with medical. Why he was included in the European squad we really don’t know. The experience on the bench? ETA on this one isn’t too clear.
Danilo:
He was on the bench on but he’s just not fit yet. He’s getting there and is in the UCL squad but until we can actually start him we have to count him as (partially) unavailable.
‘Only’ five but at this point in the season that’s still absurd. We’re half expecting someone else to ‘have picked up a knock in training’ or ‘a pull v Hearts’.
It never ends.
