The name on the lips of all Rangers fans is absolutely that of new midfield sensation Connor Barron, who has taken no time at all to demonstrate why Ibrox Noise desperately wanted this lad in the first place, with a side bonus that Aberdeen fans are absolutely seething.

We’re not going to the comparison stuff with ex-Rangers players that other fans are making and that we have already covered in a previous entry, we’re just going to focus on what Barron has been so far in a Rangers shirt:

A revelation.

While it perhaps took him a couple of preseason friendlies to get up to speed, his performances in competitive football for Rangers have been completely outstanding, and many fans are saying ‘John who?’.

Now, it’s not like we ‘miss’ John Lundstram (despite Philippe Clement’s comments after Hearts) but there’s no question Barron is filling in the gap left by the-now Trabzonspor midfielder, in that central grafter, harrier and worker.

Now we’re not going to revise history – at his best Lundstram was very, very good – strong on the ball, big in the tackle and with a very very accurate level of passing. He was frequently over 90% range.

But Barron, while being notably ‘smaller’ than the ex-Sheffield man, has shown himself to be more than adequate as a ‘replacement’, and adds outstanding mobility to the mix as well.

Rangers fans already love the kid, who is showing leadership out there too – pointing, barking, yelling, the lad knows what he’s doing and it’s no surprise he’s already become such a mainstay in the team.

He’s been a complete win of a signing already, and he, like Vaclav Cerny, show that you really don’t need ‘time’ or a ‘chance ffs’ if you’re of the right stuff to play for Rangers.

Too many players given too many excuses by too many fans, and the difference we get when guys like Cerny, Barron and as looks like, Propper arrive is stark.

Instant impact, instant quality.

The way it should be.
