Just when you thought it couldn’t sink any lower for Premiership Rangers, and believe us, we’re struggling to remember a worse top-flight spell from our club in reasonably recent memory, the board make yet another farce of a decision.
Hot on the heels of bizarre giving failing manager Philippe Clement another 12 unnecessary months, the club decided to appoint Blaine McConnell as a kind of consultant marketing director, on a short-term basis.
All the while completely oblivious to the fact he was a Rangers hater, a Celtic fan, and had posted anti-Rangers bile on social media. He has since been sacked.
If nothing else demonstrates the amateur way our club is being run, it’s this – a rampant Celtic fan being employed by the club for marketing purpose, a guy who had posted sectarian, bigoted anti-Rangers filth, was being paid by our club to market for us.
This is how badly we are being run – yes, these things can slip through the net, but this stuff is looking deeply amateurish, and it’s just one shambles after another for a club and board who right now don’t know what they’re doing.
We’ve defended Chairman John Bennett on Ibrox Noise, he is one of us, but it’s become clear that despite his circa £20M investment in Rangers, he doesn’t have a clue how to run a football club of our gravity.
It’s a huge job, and he’s drowning at the moment, this, on top of the stadium shambles whose buck is stopping with the boss as well.
Bear in mind, this is the same poorly-vetted process that employed Philippe Clement as well, so the ‘give him a chance ffs’ mentality isn’t really helping.
We wouldn’t trust this board to appoint the right man if he walked through the front door, waved a Rangers flag and said WATP very very loudly.
It’s clear Rangers are badly run, and are making mistakes throughout the club, from executive down to the football club.
Blaine McConnell is just yet another mistake from a club bumbling from one wretch to another.
