Rangers could lose major £££ assets for buttons after decisions
Rangers manager Philippe Clement...

In the past fortnight or so, Rangers fans have learned that Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi have handed in transfer requests, and both will train with the B Team – Cantwell, curiously, didn’t even play the recent reserve fixture while Hagi did, but we can’t help wondering about how these players have been managed.

Hagi, fair enough – he was loaned out by Michael Beale to Alaves, but Philippe Clement was pretty clear on taking over that at best he had no interest in the Romanian – he finally addressed it in January suggesting that he wouldn’t be discussing Hagi or anything else like that:

“There are things that I share only in discussions with the player, not with the press. Excuse me, but it’s not my style to talk in public about transfers, rumours and other collateral matters. I understand your curiosity, but these are details we only discuss inside the club. I don’t like to debate point issues when it comes to my players. We will see what happens, because this is not just a decision of mine, but also of the club.”

And as we know, he didn’t exactly remain consistent with this, revealing quite a lot of things since March and especially recently, but nevertheless, he wasn’t interested in the Romanian.

Then there’s Cantwell. Let’s not pretend here – Todd Cantwell is an immature wee lad, absolutely not a bad soul but not mentally set for the rigours of playing for a club as pressured as Rangers.

There was a personality clash from the word go between the two of them, Cantwell being the early victim of Clement’s tendencies to play players out of position, and when Clement deemed the English playmaker to be disobeying his orders v Aris, he removed him early inside the first half in what was a humiliation for Cantwell.

Clement has managed Cantwell abysmally. And not much better in the case of Hagi.

We aren’t actually sure, since around March, who the boss has actually managed well, in truth, but that’s another story for another time.

The big problem we now face? We have two players who could have been massive financial assets now frozen out and won’t fetch anything like what they could have.

Cantwell will probably go for what he arrived for (£2M) and Hagi will be fractionally higher at £3M. Both could have been easily £10M+ assets but Clement’s decisions (on and off the pitch) mean Rangers won’t get those kinds of numbers for them.

Clement is absurdly out of his depth and making repeated errors. We want him to succeed and we support him (no choice) but he’s making things difficult for himself with the calls he’s making.

Wright to start tonight, anyone?
