Rangers are fast hurtling towards the end of the transfer window, and Ibrox fans could be forgiven at frustration at the lack of general activity, but one deal has most definitely approached completion.
Scott Wright’s exit to Birmingham has been agreed at £300,000, in a fee that is set to depress Rangers supporters, not because it’s believed Wright is worth more than that, but because such a low-value modest-quality player was such a stalwart and at times favourite of all four of the managers he played under at Ibrox.
He managed 28 appearances under Steven Gerrard, before Giovanni van Bronckhorst made him a regular with 39 outings, before Michael Beale gave him another 20, and finally Philippe Clement offered him 31 donnings of the jersey.
It’s actually staggering that such a mediocre and poor player got so entrenched in Rangers and managed the appearances he did, while managing an abysmal 12 goals and 7 assists in those total 120 appearances.
And it’s even more stunning that a player that often-used by Clement and his predecessors has ended up with such an accurate move for his ability – Birmingham, League One, just like Ben Davies.
It shows how far Rangers have fallen that players of this level played so much for our club, as it lumbered to just 3 trophies in 13 years, among misguided and poor management.
And yes we most definitely include Gio and Phil in this, as much as we love Gio.
Well, he’s off, to league one Birmingham – a great move for him, and he will be well paid.
How this guy, sound as he is, was able to amass this number of appearances (and STARTS) for Rangers… is a symbol of just how badly we’re managed since promotion.
But just ‘support the team ffs’ and to hell with winning anything.
