It is very telling of the previously-poor Rangers squad that of all the players who have departed in the summer, and there’s quite a few of them, only 6 of them have landed remotely on their feet.

Robby McCrorie, John Lundstram and at a push, Borna Barisic are the only exiting Rangers players who are now relevant at their new clubs and having solid post-Rangers careers. Borna has only started one match in Turkey and has been a sub otherwise.

There’s also Jose Cifuentes who’s in Greece, having just joined Aris on loan, Connor Goldson who is already out with an injury in Cyprus, and Sam Lammers who started brightly with Twente but ultimately has just one goal in 3. And didn’t come close to scoring in the Champions League before Twente went out.

The rest?

Abdallah Sima won’t be a fixture for Brighton any more than Fabio Silva will for Wolves, and Jon McLaughlin, Kemar Roofe and Ryan Jack have all found their post-Rangers careers to be struggles, none finding new clubs.

McCrorie and Lundstram, and potentially Lammers, are the only few of the exits who actually look like solid additions for their new clubs, of the past exodus that took place this summer.

What does that say about the 11+ players who left, that only 3 are actually shining in their new environment?

It’s all well and good us saying our current squad is not good enough, and then saying we’re worse than last season, but then that is a damning indictment of last season given just how poor that squad clearly was.

Rangers’ football has just been very bad for a long time; bad manager, bad squad.

There are a few nuggets of quality in the team of course, but overall, the fact Rangers can’t sell players like the Pattersons, Basseys and Aribos of old for the big money like we did back then tells you how rubbish our squad has become the past few years.

Depressing.
