Soon-to-be former Rangers playmaker Ianis Hagi has posted a cryptic announcement on social media ‘confirming’ he’s left Rangers, as speculation continues that he’s closing in on a move to Italian giants Fiorentina.

The Romanian attacker, whose Ibrox career has been over for a very long time, posted a note saying ‘if I post where I’m at I left already’, appearing to confirm his time at Rangers is done, but of course it could literally mean anything.

That said, the 25-year-old’s spell in Govan is dead in the water and has been for a long time – he didn’t return to Glasgow at all even to check in for preseason, we assume with the club’s permission, although he has returned now and features for the B team. And is now seeking his next club.

The funny thing is he’s played for Fiorentina before, two seasons there when he was around 18, and it didn’t go terribly well, them being his first club outside Romania, but it’s apparently being deemed that they want him back as a man and will pay Rangers around the £3M the club shelled out in the first place for him.

Even more curious is that even Sam Lammers, who absolutely did not want to play for Rangers any more and wasn’t even interested in being part of our club, still came back here professionally for preseason and took part in B team matches to keep fitness up.

Hagi hasn’t even had the courtesy to do that, only returning for contractual obligation in the regular season, obviously gaining permission, we assume, from the club, but just staying away during the summer post-Euros.

Otherwise, of course, it’s a breach of contract and he technically could have been fired.

But then doing that would lose Rangers our transfer fee, so the club is happy to ship him to Italy and get the money and let that be that.

Hagi seems quite happy about that too, and will be hoping to shine for the B team this afternoon.
