There’s a growing belief that Rangers ‘aren’t spending any money’.

Ibrox Noise was very vivid in describing how our spending has worked so far this summer, and that we had no money left unless we sold.

Well, guess what, we’ve now sold two men in seven days in Connor Goldson and Sam Lammers at a combined revenue of £6.5M. We know the sceptics think it was closer to 3 Irn Bru bottles and a pack of Chewits, but we made good cash out of the pair of them, and that’s definitely helped.

But where are we actually with our spending?

Let’s break it down, and no, this isn’t creative accounting, because Ibrox Noise has no need to inflate or reduce any numbers:

Mohamed Diomande: £4.5M, clause activated this summer. His fee was part of summer’s budget, not January’s. The cash was ringfenced to be used in July.

Jefte. He was famously €1M in Euros, that is not much lower in pounds.

Robin Propper. He was where the Goldson money went straight to. £2.5M. Similar deal, similar addons. Some media claim it’s £1.5M but most of them are just plucking numbers out of the air.

Connor Barron. He was free but there’s still the development cost, which is likely to be around £500,000. There’s also his signing on fee, we’d imagine a healthy 6-figure sum in there.

Clinton Nsiala. Same as Barron bar the development cost.

Hamza Igamane. £2.5M, so far completely wasted, a horrendous error of a signing – injured and won’t be at Philippe Clement’s disposal for 8+ weeks.

Vaclav Cerny. Only a loan so a small fee – did you think loans were free? This will have cost a modest 6-figure sum. He’s a £10M winger after all…

Liam Kelly. A free again, but once more a signing on fee. Usual 6-figure sum here.

The big superstar free agents, like Kylian Mbappe was before his Real Madrid move, get the many millions for a signing on fee, Barron and Kelly don’t quite qualify as superstars sadly so they get a healthy sum, around about £350,000 give or take.

So let’s total that up and it’s roughly around £13M spent now including those signing on fees and loan fees.

We’re trying to remove ‘bloat’ and keep the numbers as accurate as possible – there is a speck of guesstimate because the numbers are never public. Not even ITKs know the precise figures.

It could and probably is closer to £15M but we’ll be conservative if we can.

Factor in the £250,000 for Robby McCrorie, £2.5M for Connor Goldson and £4M for Sam Lammers and Rangers have pulled in around £6.75M so far.

And spent in the region of at least £13M.

It’s ok, not exactly a throbbing warchest, but we could never do that without the guaranteed Champions League cash.

So there you have it.
