Reports are now reaching us that Blackburn manager John Eustace, having confirmed his interest in Rangers’ Rabbi Matondo, is also seeking the signature of Todd Cantwell to replace the departed Samuel Szmodics.
Eustace admitted Matondo was on a list Rovers were looking at, and lo and behold the Welsh winger produced the performance of his Rangers career v Ross County.
Now we’re getting claims that the ex-Rangers medical patient ‘has turned’ his attention to Rangers’ unwanted playmaker Cantwell, who most definitely would grab the gift horse in the mouth with this one and run down to Ewood Park as fast as he can, but there’s only a few days to make this (and Matondo) happen.
Cantwell is a fiercely-talented player who 12 months ago was an absolute Rangers hero, having ditched (another) club he fell out with, in Norwich, for the colossus of Rangers.
To see how it’s collapsed this aggressively is genuinely sad, given what he could have been with the right attitude.
He and Philippe Clement were/are not suited to each other, and we really hope this move happens.
It’s an unfortunate end and hopefully Eustace follows his interest up with a good bid.
