Rangers are to miss out on major signing target Stanley Nsoki after the former Philippe Clement charge opted for Lille in Ligue 1 instead, demonstrating, sadly, that Clement has little pull in the transfer market.
The 25-year-old ex-Brugge star, currently at German side Hoffenheim, is free to move onto his next club, but Rangers’ bid for him was rejected either by club bosses or the player himself and he will instead switch for France and get another major move in his career.
The Clement angle is of course that this is a player who played under him in Belgium, during a successful period for the Jupiler league giants, but for whatever reason, Nsoki has no apparent urge to link up against with his old boss and has chosen the ‘better’ league that is Ligue 1.
Of course we’re sure money has spoken a bit here, the higher level of competition too being a major carrot not to mention assured group participation in the lucrative Champions League.
So it’s understandable why Nsoki would go elsewhere, unfortunately – better league, more cash, and Champions League.
This is a former £10M defender and Rangers would have done very well to get him.
Sadly it wasn’t to be.
