The misleading headlines of the Scottish tabloids were exposed today after it emerged that Todd Cantwell has not been restored to first-team training at all, and was in fact snapped simply at the training centre on his way to B Team duties, amid the first team squad’s pre-weekend session.
Following extensive sourcing, Ibrox Noise learned that while SNS photographer Alan Harvey’s photograph did accurately place Cantwell at Auchenhowie in the proximity of the senior squad, further investigation has revealed he was simply a bypasser on his way to join up with the B Team until his move, likely looking to be Trabzonspor, is finalised.
Furthermore Clement’s admission at the presser on Friday that he basically doesn’t have a clue about the playmaker’s situation is a further hint that Cantwell’s Rangers career is completely done, he is not training with the first team squad and his exit can’t come soon enough for this manager.
Ibrox Noise, of course, reported in good faith based on the evidence such as Harvey’s snap, but in truth our story on this was a speck dubious given it was coming from the DR.
Unfortunately ‘seeing is believing’ and many fans were completely duped by the photos, disputing our story by suggesting ‘he was pictured at training’.
Understandable, and no one was abusive about our content – the snap was rather convincing over the story the DR wanted to tell.
We even swallowed it a little until our sources confirmed it to be false.
The problem with news, Rangers news, is it is usually sourced in good faith (always in our case) but can often be mistaken, wrong, or an outright lie.
Ibrox Noise will never tell you an outright lie if we know something is completely false – but we can’t say we won’t ever get things wrong.
And it seems, briefly, we got this one as wrong as everyone else.
Cantwell isn’t back with the first team squad and he’ll be off as soon as his reported move to Trabzonspor, or any other bidder, is competed.
