Cantwell fee revealed as playmaker prepares to depart Rangers
Todd Cantwell with a bit of a faux Pas on Social Media.

Todd Cantwell’s Rangers exit transfer fee has been revealed at £1.2M after Rangers accepted £600,000 up front and a further £600,000 in addons from Blackburn amid his impending exit to Ewood Park.

The playmaker’s Rangers ‘ordeal’ is about to end, with John Eustace’ talks with the ex-Norwich man deemed as productive and the player will put pen to paper on a deal taking him to the Championship for a long-term period.

Is the fee enough?

It’s deeply depressing, is what it is, for a player who was genuinely viewed as a £40M player only 2-3 years ago, being in the sights of Aston Villa and Liverpool, with both moves falling apart and his remaining at Norwich and more or less pulling what he did at Rangers.

This teaches Rangers’ scouting a valuable lesson – do not take on any players with documented ‘issues’ with their current clubs.

Every time Rangers have taken on such a player, Cantwell being one, Raskin another, the signing hasn’t worked out and the overused football cliché of ‘our manager can clearly sort this guy out’ is majoritavely (is that even a word) nonsense, sadly.

Cantwell is another example of a risky ‘gem’ player Rangers have gone for, and the damage it’s done to the club is huge.

True, Philippe Clement’s treatment of him was dire, but that was the Belgian’s approach to a player he quickly sussed was a ‘wrong un’ from the start.

Cantwell is a talented player who, in a parallel universe, could have been in the England picture.

As it is he’s posting garbage on social media and headed back to the Championship.

What a waste.

Rangers will get around £1.2M out of this, but save £25,000pw on wages.

We’ll take that.
