Two surprise inclusions as Rangers jet to Holland

In a surprise development, despite Rangers accepting bids for Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers and Scott Wright also being on the verge of departing to Sheffield Wednesday, both players were unexpectedly included on the flight to Holland for the preseason camp, with Dessers previously especially anticipated to miss out on the trip.

Sunday morning saw the squad take off from Glasgow Airport, and a great number of players were included who have seen heavy speculation about their future, including Todd Cantwell, Tom Lawrence and James Tavernier.

Sumer signings spotted were Connor Barron, Jefte and Clinton Nsiala but no Hamza Igamane just yet, who was back at Ibrox instead. No sign that we noted of Liam Kelly on the initial flight.

The camp has no real bearing on who will stay and who will go – the only time a player doesn’t go is when a move is near completion and he’s finalising his medical etc with the new club.

None of Rangers’ potential exits are even close to that point, so it was decided everyone (possible) goes.

Including Dessers and Wright.

Rangers face Ajax on Saturday in the first preseason clash of this summer program, and while we will never take results at this point seriously, performance and coherence at this point do give an indication of where the squad and manager ideas are at. Last preseason was very accurate indeed!

So we will note what happens out in Holland and of course in the other friendlies as well.

Hopefully there are positive signs of encouragement.
