It is understood by Ibrox Noise sources that Rangers are unlikely to be able to sell striker Sam Lammers this window after the Dutch hitman priced himself out of a move to Holland.
Rangers are known to be very much seeking an exit for the ex-PSV forward, and the attacker himself is also keen on the departure, but unfortunately a number of Eredivisie sides have pulled out of negotiations with him after his wage demands exceeded their payment structures.
Utrecht especially were previously strong favourites to try to make it permanent, but pulled the plug on the deal after Lammers is understood to have demanded £25,000pw, which is over 3 times their best paid player – Jeppe Okkels.
This has also priced out AZ Alkmaar, FC Twente and a host of other midtable Dutch sides who are Lammers’ target audience, and while there’s said to be some interest from other countries in Europe, including the Championship, it’s nothing more than tentative.
The fact is Rangers are really struggling to get the wantaway striker off the payroll after Michael Beale sanctioned £22,000pw wages last summer, which, in fairness, has been his salary ever since he joined Atalanta.
He is, however, wanting a pay raise to leave Rangers, and no club in Holland is going there.
This means essentially that unless there’s a major miracle and some big bucks team comes in and wants him, Sam Lammers is going nowhere and will have to be a loan again next season.
Unless, that is, Philippe Clement changes his mind on the Dutchman.
Probably not.
