Rangers have reportedly secured the signature of Czechia’s Vaclav Cerny on loan after the Wolfsburg winger and his club green lighted the deal for the international winger to join Rangers for at least one season.
The £8M-valued winger didn’t have the best campaign last season in the German Bundesliga, just 5 goals and an assist in 25 appearances, but the Czechia international was sensational in Holland the previous seasons with Twente as we reported earlier, driving his value from £800,000 to ten times that.
Unfortunately it just hasn’t worked in Germany and Rangers are going to take the right winger on loan for at least a season, with, we’d assume, option to buy if he impresses.
This is, by a distance, Rangers’ first real signing of this window, a signing on much more par with the level of Rangers that we expect.
The club has absolutely nothing on the wings at the moment, nothing convincing, and it’s hoped Cerny will be a big solution there and that Rangers will want to make the deal permanent come next summer.
But long way before we get to that.
He has 6 goals in 17 caps for Czechia, a good return for a winger, with a couple of assists in there as well – he’s definitely more than capable.
83 goals. 60 assists in 264 appearances in his career – if Rangers can get this loan deal over the line it could just be the boost in the arm the squad needs.
He’s a notable improvement over what we have.
His only downside was relatively failing in Germany but he was only given 14 starts in the whole season, no chance to build momentum.
The move there didn’t work out, and hopefully Rangers will.
