Some Rangers fans have been discussing the exit of Connor Goldson, and in particular, Ibrox Noise’s approval of it, suggesting our view on him is toxic.

They may well be correct, and they’ve also alleged the fanbase and the club in general is very toxic these days, ergo ‘why would any new players want to join us’.

In theory, they have a point – would you want to join a club in which the fans are hurling hate?

Well, it doesn’t stop Real Madrid getting the world’s best players, and we’ll be honest, Madristas are probably the most hostile fanbase in the world.

A draw is ‘sack everyone and burn them all’ territory, a loss is ‘nuke the city’ territory. Madrid fans are the most unforgiving in football, and they proudly know it but it didn’t stop them getting Bellingham, Vinicius Jr and Mbappe did it?

Truth?

Players don’t care. They go where the money is, where they’re wanted, and where the big clubs are.

They KNOW that the fans will not be happy if they’re not winning, if it’s a club where winning is expected. Look at Bayern fans’ reaction to their horror season last year. Hardly friendly and quite a few protests – there were tennis balls being thrown at them at one point.

Any Rangers fan who thinks that a few angry fans are going to stop a player coming to the club where they know winning is everything is naïve beyond words.

As one supporter today put it, our fans are going soft – and he was absolutely right.

Those fans we referred to who virtue-signalled against other Rangers fans who rightly called out the horrendous Fabio Silva and the very subpar Borna Barisic – this is the woke nonsense we really can’t be bothered with on Ibrox Noise.

Our fans should expect the best, and sadly, these days, a lot of them are on the side of fourth-rate players who aren’t good enough, and are more interested in ‘softly softly’ and treating players like those with kid gloves. ‘Give him a chance ffs’ and all that.

Rangers should be the biggest and best in Scotland. Right now we’re neither, and we’ll not tolerate fans who WILL tolerate that situation and defending the kind of rubbish that got us to this point.

Are we toxic?

We’d call our own position on Ibrox Noise ‘expectant’. We’d never abuse a player on social media, nor would we spew hate at them on the street, but we’ll never condemn fans at Ibrox for booing another terrible performance/result.

We are Rangers, we should be a lot better than draws and losses and playing terribly in the process.

If that kind of hard-nosed demanding support is too brazen for you, maybe you’re better off following Hearts.

Playing for Rangers is a privilege, an honour – and winning is a basic requirement.

Some fans seem to have forgotten that, and maybe they would be better off with a ‘kinder’ team where winning just isn’t so important.
