It does seem inevitable this summer that Rangers’ Belgium-born Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers will head to pastures new, with clear interest in the ex-Feyenoord striker from several markets, including Saudi Arabia, France, Spain as well as Greece.

Rangers are widely understood to be seeking back at least the initial £4.5M outlay, which didn’t yet activate into the full £6M addon fee Cremonese inserted into the contract, meaning Rangers will avoid that £1.5M extra and be able to recoup minimally what was spent.

This could indeed see a bidding war with Rangers making back well into the £6M+ range for the 29-year-old.

The intriguing part for Rangers fans is why is such a ‘terrible’ striker getting big interest from four different football markets? Especially including two very credible ones.

Is it maybe because the forward isn’t as awful as many supporters would accuse him of being?

Unfortunately this is academic as it’s very rare once a player is unpopular with fans can they then turn it around into being a favourite – Dessers is destined never to be a fan favourite and he is said to have handed in a transfer request.

There will be no shortage of takers.

As for where he goes, we hope it’s somewhere where he’s a bit more loved and appreciated than he was at Rangers – we don’t deny on Ibrox Noise that we would have kept Antonio Colak every day of the week ourselves, but we backed Dessers as his replacement and hoped fans would start to appreciate him.

They never really did, and the bulk of responses to this story involve driving and airports.

So it is likely Dessers will find his new home this summer, leaving Rangers down to just fit-again Danilo up top, unless Hamza Igamane can be resolved soon.

More on this story as we get it.
