So as we all know now, the world’s worst-kept Rangers secret is out, and Robby McCrorie has now joined Kilmarnock on a permanent transfer and will aim to be their number one for the new season.
It demonstrates that being on that flight to Holland meant nothing, and Ibrox Noise had to point that out re: James Tavernier this summer, following the captain’s arrival at Auchenhowie for preseason training. We reminded the usual contrarians that Antonio Colak joined the squad in Germany last season, saying his goodbyes at the camp when he secured his move to Parma.
AKA McCrorie went to Holland, but like Colak, said his goodbyes and has now flown home to begin his new career with Derek McInnes’ side.
It’s a bit sad, it really is – we cannot see any likelihood that new signing Liam Kelly has joined to replace current first choice Jack Butland, he is 100% the new number two, and it’s clear McCrorie ran out of patience with the situation.
Was he pushed out?
We suggested that might be the case, but the reality is McCrorie made it very clear that he wanted minutes, and Philippe Clement simply rejected the request.
It’s as simple as that – Clement explained that Butland is number one, and he couldn’t promise McCrorie anything, but did ask for him not to leave in January, but to stay till the summer till we could replace him as number two.
And as a goalie far too loyal to the club that honestly has given him absolutely nothing, he stayed, and wasted another 6 months of his career.
And Liam Kelly was to be the replacement – whether that was arranged in January we can’t be sure – he didn’t sign a precontract after all.
But he’s now the second in command behind the former England goalie and that’s the situation moving forward.
We wish McCrorie the best, he wasted years of his career at Ibrox gaining absolutely zip, and could have left along with his brother long ago.
Rangers do this with so many players, treating them badly and giving them no minutes while sticking with underperforming rubbish elsewhere. Bear in mind even Giovanni van Bronckhorst chose Jon sodding McLaughlin over McCrorie.
So McCrorie begins a new career, and Rangers now have Butland and Kelly.
And that is that.
