Kenny McLean to Rangers falls through after disagreement

Kenny McLean will not be joining Rangers (this summer) after it was confirmed that just like John Lundstram, Rangers are unwilling to offer the 32-year-old the contract he wants.

The Norwich City star is desperate to join Rangers, but the best the club is understood to be willing to offer is a one-year deal, and McLean wants at least two with an option for a third.

And if Rangers weren’t willing to offer that to the-now Trabzonspor midfielder, they certainly won’t to McLean.

Rangers have very very much changed the trade model – the club will not offer more than one year to anyone over 30, which is why Leon Balogun was perfectly happy with the new terms at 35 (he’s 36 now).

But at 32, McLean wants more security than Rangers are willing to offer, and just like Lunny, Rangers say no to it.

For Rangers to offer two years or more requires the player to be significantly below 30, and McLean is just too old for that to fit into the club’s new trade, contract and wage model.

It means unless the Norwich man is willing to accept a one-year deal, he won’t be joining Rangers.

There has been some reaction online to this news, most fans absolutely thrilled to hear the deal has fallen through; McLean really wouldn’t have been a popular signing even if Ibrox Noise endorsed the capture.

But the reality is it’s dead in the water and we doubt that’s ever going to change.
