First Major Trophy: Scottish Cup Victory (1894)

The club was first founded in 1872 by Moses McNeil, Peter McNeil, Peter Campbell, and William McBeath. It wasn’t until 19 years later however that they won their first major trophy. It was this year they had their first League title win that really helped boost their reputation going forward.

The Treble Achievement (1976)

Over the next decade there were many different managers all working to get the team to globy and they really dominated the Scottish league from the 1920s-1950s. Yet it was the year of 1976 that’s one of the most notable for the club. Here they won the treble, meaning they won the Scottish League, the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup. This was a real defining moment for the team.

Under the influence of key figures such as Graeme Souness and Walter Smith they were able to take the team to glory time and time again. In fact, over this eight year period, they won nine league titles in a row.
