There is now a full-on bidding war taking place for Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers, with no lack of demand for the Nigeria international who is said to have handed in a transfer request at Ibrox.
The 29-year-old hitman is wanted by at least three Italian clubs alone, with Hellas Verona, Torino and now Cagliari showing interest in his signature, especially given his 9 goals and assists in 29 for a relegated Serie A side in Cremonese the season before last.
The interest doesn’t stop there – the Belgian-born forward is also interesting German and Spanish sides as well, not to mention long-term suitors PAOK of Greece, and it’s understood Rangers expect at least £4.5M back for him, with the fee potentially rising to £6M+.
It does seem Dessers’ departure is now inevitable, as long as Rangers recoup the fee paid for him, and with such high demand for his signature the club will certainly regain a healthy chunk of change.
Dessers’ CV is solid – his 22 goals and 9 assists overall last season for a team who ultimately ended up struggling a bit domestically was a strong return, even if his league record was a lot weaker and only yielded 13 goals.
The point is though he’s a pretty coveted player, and he feels immensely underappreciated by Rangers fans.
Not by the club, he loves the club and has no issue with his team mates, but he doesn’t feel backed or supported by the fans, and he’s absolutely correct to feel that way.
Hopefully the right solution can be found for him and the club.
