Connor Goldson to Greece/Cyrpus is gaining traction after the Rangers defender was purportedly seen boarding a flight to the Mediterranean with allegations the former Brighton man is negotiating a move to Cypriot side Aris Limassol.
Is there any truth in this?
We do wonder why on earth, if these photos and claims are true, manager Philippe Clement would sanction a visit to the Mediterranean for the stopper in the middle of preseason aside football business.
We obviously know very vividly how Rangers winger Scott Wright was caught at Glasgow Airport by some Sky cameras and he explained he was going out there to size Pendikspor up.
So it’s nothing new for players to take flights out in summer – but as mentioned, it’s usually on football business, not ‘just a break’.
Which means if Goldson was on a plane to southern Europe, the chances are that like Scott Wright, he was given permission to speak to a club and the obvious Chinese whisper there is that it’s Aris.
There’s nothing official yet on this one of course, and we’ve heard rumblings that Birmingham in League One were interested, but clearly his wages put them off – £40,000pw a bit much for a league in which £6,000 is the generally-accepted wage.
As for Saudi, clearly he nor team mate James Tavernier were interested in the Middle East, so that one died a death it appears.
And now we await further news on a potential exit for the centre half. To Cyprus?
