We have to say it tells you a lot that far from moving to the Premier League or even Championship, Connor Goldson’s long-needed Rangers exit is to the backwater of Cyprus, and the fourth-best team there.

Indeed, the former Brighton (and very soon-to-be former Rangers) man is making what can only be deemed a money move with Aris Limassol raising his already diabolical £38,000pw salary to levels we imagine will be closer to £50,000.

The fact this was the only move he could get, and they’ll pay a clear increase on his ridiculously-overinflated salary as it is says a lot about him.

Sure, we’re not going to be too harsh on his character – it is hard to say no to money. Big money. Why do loaded celebrities do adverts? Because they always want more money.

And we won’t completely judge the 31-year-old for taking in the filthy lucre from Russian-bankrolled Aris.

But we do suggest that he’s ended up at that level at still ‘peak’ levels of his career, showing just what his actual ability is.

Calvin Bassey got Fulham PL and Ajax Holland, Glen Kamara got Leeds and now Rennes Ligue 1. Even Joe Aribo got PL Southampton. Patterson got PL Everton. It doesn’t matter how these moves worked out, it matters that big teams in big leagues wanted these guys and pay big wages for them.

Connor Goldson, the comically mediocre defender that he is, could only get Cyprus.

Is he leaving BECAUSE they’re paying so much?

Could be a bit of that. But we all know fine well Goldson would struggle in the Premier League – the reality is he struggled for Rangers aside 55, and as we’ve said before, everyone shone in 20/21.

Do we wish him well?

We’re not keen on him at all. He didn’t show a great deal of respect to our club, saying a lot of things we weren’t too fond of, and his lack of humility and long-time untouchability no matter how badly he was playing was infuriating.

Blame everyone else? That was him all the way, never admitting he had made a mistake and barking at everyone else rather than accept he was at fault.

He simply wasn’t a very good defender, and like Rangers fans do these days, so many of our support reckoned the sun shone out of his backside; there’s a real tribalism about backing rank-average players these days at Ibrox, players Walter Smith and other old-school defenders would chase out of the club.

That said, most of that favour isn’t there any more, and the bulk of fans did feel his time in Govan was done.

Yes it was. It was 6 years too much of him.
