With the Euros well and truly underway one might be forgiven for thinking deals would slow down during this period of close season tournament busy.
In reality, of course, when it comes to the exits of certain players from the club, the Euros basically have nothing to do with anything – the only ones that might be affected are those there, and Rangers have no players at the Euros aside the slim connection to Ianis Hagi, who arrived as a sub v Ukraine.
Ergo, two of the big stories this summer have been those of James Tavernier and Connor Goldson’s potential departures, with Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq a big name said to be interested.
Information had been received of a combination £8M bid for the pair of them, but that nothing has happened since then, and that was some time ago, suggests that both players are hesitant about going to the Middle East.
There are reports in the press that the bid hasn’t actually come in yet, with Rangers fan media alleging one is imminent, but whether Gerrard has sent an actual offer already or is planning to, there is no doubt that this situation is very much simmering.
It’s pretty clear that most Rangers fans do consider both players’ Rangers races to be run, and with them both aging well into their 30s and having been at Ibrox for a significant time, it feels like a parting of ways is now very necessary.
Connor Goldson was actually dropped, let’s not forget, in the first time it’s been done since he joined Rangers – some sources have suggested that’s the reason he especially wants to move on – they say he’s no longer considered untouchable at Ibrox, which we would suggest is a very amusing reflection on the kind of man he is if true. Entitled, perhaps? Of course, this is just supposition and we don’t know the ins and outs of Goldson’s head.
The one concern is though that the whole story has gone a bit quiet the past little while – while some media is still milling with it, the entire report of their potential exits has gone a bit silent, and we really hope that’s just because it’s in ‘process’.
Hopefully we get a tangible update on it soon for you.
