Rangers are reported to be closing in on the £850,000 permanent signing of German winger Yusuf Kabadayi, an honestly uninspiring potential addition from Bayern Munich.

The 20-year-old, who has never played a single senior top flight match of football in his career, has been formally rejected by the Bavarian giants and spent last season on loan, in an underwhelming spell, at Schalke in the German second division, 5 goals (no assists) in 25 appearances.

We see in this guy even less than we did in Fabio Silva, but it appears the club think this lad is a major answer for Rangers’ wing issues, with a severe lack of depth in that department.

He does at least have one thing going for him, which is 18 international caps for Germany’s youth teams, amassing 7 for the U20s, as recently as last Septembder.

Unfortunately he’s not made the big big step up to U21s, being overlooked at that level and remaining with the U20s instead.

It’s not an exciting signing – he has no real CV in club football, he hasn’t experienced pressure in football (Schalke were a million miles off promotion last campaign in 10th), and his numbers are far from spectacular.

Transfermarkt rate him around £1M for value, and it’s been claimed by several sources that he will set the club back that aforementioned £850,000 on a permanent deal from Bayern.

We can’t say he screams any more of being the Celtic-killer that we doubt Jefte is either, and if Rangers do secure this signing, we can’t really say we’re feeling any more reassured that 56 is coming our way next season.

This is cross fingers time and hope for the best that Kabadayi is an unearthed gem who becomes Brian Laudrup if Rangers get the deal over the line.
