Rangers are making a move for Saprissa defender, Costa Rican stopper Gerard Taylor, with 5 caps for his country, at 23.

The move continues the club’s scouting of the South American market, and this sees another defender not good enough for Rangers making their way across the Atlantic.

Ok, hands up, we’re only kidding – he’s going to Hearts, not Rangers, but can anyone actually tell us the difference between the market that Hearts are buying from, and the one we appear to be in?

We’ve just signed a Fluminese reject, and a Milan kid – Hearts are about to sign a Costa Rica 5-cap defender, which, if he was coming to Rangers, we’d barely bat an eye at it because that’s the market we’ve been in.

Indeed, this is exactly the type of player from a dead-end league with some diddy club in South America that we are currently signing from, and in fairness to many Rangers fans, the supporters voted lately that they aren’t overly impressed by the summer business thus far.

If it’s good enough for Hearts, apparently it’s good enough for Rangers according to our management, and we’ve been saying for some considerable time that the calibre of player we’re bringing in really is the same market as the Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen-type those clubs would sign.

Only we, at least some of our fans, try to defend it as ‘trust in the manager’ and ‘trust in Nils Koppen’.

It really isn’t very good.

It won’t overcome Celtic, and we have a lack of faith that a ‘youth project’ is the way forward for us.

The time for that was 2012 when Barrie McKay and Lewis Macleod were tearing the Third Division up.

Now?

We need Rangers level quality and anyone thinking Jefte fits the bill really sees football very differently to us.
