With the news seemingly confirmed today that Leon Balogun will in fact get a new Rangers contract, Ibrox Noise couldn’t be more pleased with this one.
We are, however, laughing at the supporters who have already started complaining about this development, which we find predictably hypocritical and downright amusing.
All season long we have advocated for Balogun to get another deal, all season long Rangers fans have campaigned for that, for the club to keep him.
And today it is announced (albeit not officially) that that is exactly what is going to happen, so Ibrox fans start whining at the trading model and the policy of keeping a 35-year old.
We find this psychology utterly depressing, that having all complained at the club for potentially letting Balogun go this summer, fans are now complaining that the club is keeping him!
Ok, MAYBE it’s not the same fans, we can’t possibly know every individual, but there will be one or two who have about-turned and are now whining at this.
Why? Because they just like to complain, to be contrary. To complain at the club for not keeping him, then at the club for keeping him.
But we will definitely say, rather than whining at these fans, we will applaud the club and the manager for a wise move – by a distance our best defender and easily with at least one year left in him and over his injury issues mostly, Balogun is the best defender in Scotland, sadly left in a rearguard of Tavernier, Goldson and Barisic.
Had he had better around him, Rangers’ defence would have been a lot tighter – he is an exceptional stopper and Rangers are lucky to have him.
We are also lucky he loves us, and wants to be here.
Balogun is a good piece of news, and it’s a good call.
For as long as he is good enough, he’s young enough.
Well done Clement for tying the guy down – clearly the man knows a defender anyway.
Doesn’t solve the Goldson mystery mind you…
Totally agree, i love big Balo, big strong and has bit of pace. Also understands the club and its demands. Would have no problem with him in the startin line up next season. I tried to see how many games hes actually played. I think over 3 seasons hes played for us weve got around 75-76 games all in which is 25 a season on average, hopefully he can stay fit and get a season where he plays 30+ games.
