In the latest episode of ‘what rotten hipster player are Rangers linked to now’, South African Premier League ‘star’ Relebohile Mofokeng, 19, is Rangers’ new wing target apparently, the Orlando Pirates left winger said to be interesting Philippe Clement’s scouting team.

Indeed, media reports this morning claim Rangers are in the front of the queue (seriously, there’s a queue?) for the £300,000-rated attacker, who has 10 goals and assists in 36 in the DStv Premiership, which, let’s face it, is worse than any backwater league in Europe.

We’re now into the abyss of Africa, having had a go at Kosovan strikers in Romania, we’re setting our sights even higher via 19-year-old wingers in South Africa.

We can’t help wondering if Rangers are regressing back to Warburton days, where we’d sign some complete random from Arsenal’s fourth reserve side on loan, who would then go onto have a stellar career either in the Dutch second division or maybe League One.

It seems every player we’re interested in is the kind of piffle Hearts would be after, but hey, even Aberdeen signed Junior Hoilett and Hibs got Adam De Fondre and neither of them are half bad.

Nope, it’s Romania and South Africa for us, where our esteemed scouting team are plundering the various backwaters of world football and unearthing Lord knows what as opposed to just spending a bit of cash in decent leagues.

Well, maybe we will still get Ben Johnson?
