Rangers’ cup final issues laid bare as XI is revealed

Rangers’ matchday squad for Saturday’s trip to Tynecastle has given massive clues about the cup final, and demonstrated the desperate lack of depth available to the manager.

The XI is:

Butland, Tavernier, King, Davies, Fraser; Raskin, Diomande; McCausland, Wright, Cantwell; Dessers.

And the bench:

McCrorie, Ridvan, Silva, Jack, Sima, Dowell, Sterling, Yfeko and McKinnon.

Which means, unless there are any miracle recoveries, the Old Firm final will be a selection from:

Tavernier, King, Davies, Fraser, Ridvan, Sterling, Jack, Raskin, Dowell, Diomande, McCausland, Wright, Cantwell, Sima and Dessers.

3 of whom are not fit to start yet.

15 outfield players in total including two youngsters, 3 if you include McCausland, 5 if McKinnon and Yfeko are in there.

It’s not great, is it?

Missing players are in abundance here, along with players not ready to start, and the selection pool is less than threadbare.

The only good thing that can come out of the Hearts match is no further injuries, because as it is we’re going into the cup final with a defence of King and Davies, which is right back to the Gio days.

It’s abysmal, and that rearguard will get slaughtered against Celtic, simple as that. It stands no chance, nor does the rest of the available squad.

Rangers are such a mess now, and we just pray for the end of this season and the end of this cursed ‘cycle’.
