It has been confirmed Rangers will indeed sell Sam Lammers this summer, putting a £5M price-tag on his head, but finding the right buyer is proving to be an issue, with his wages a major concern.
Lammers’ current salary of around £22,000 is among the better earners at Rangers, but the only three clubs in the Eredivisie who pay any players at that rate are the upper earners of PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord, or Holland’s big three.
From third-placed Twente down, Dutch league players get around sub-£10K a week, and that includes current loan side Utrech and courting AZ.
In short, the only three clubs in Holland that can afford Lammers’ wage include the one who sold him because they knew he wasn’t much cop, and got £8M for the privilege.
Rangers are set to rake in a profit on Lammers, but the wages are a definite issue and there will have to be compromise on that part for his new club, because the big three don’t want him and the rest can’t afford his salary.
Lammers himself has no intention of returning to Scotland again, he’s confirmed he needs to talk to the club about his exit, but he’d sooner walk through hot coals than physically return to Scotland so that’s likely to be a call between his agent and the club or suchlike.
Either way, finding a buyer isn’t an issue, finding someone who is willing to break their salary cap to buy him is, and no one outside Holland wants Sam Lammers.
He is good at a midtable Dutch team, but under pressure he crumbles and cannot handle the demand at a PSV or a Rangers, falling to pieces at both clubs as he historically did.
Wish him the best?
Couldn’t really care less, he didn’t have nice things to say about our club or the fans, and complained about both Beale and Clement. Admittedly we’ve done that too, but we’re not being paid £22,000 for it.
