More and more we’re seeing some Rangers fans saying ‘maybe Graeme Souness was right’.
Can we just firmly nip this one in the bud, for as much as we now do not think Philippe Clement has the fortitude or ability to manage Rangers, this doesn’t mean replace him with Frank Lampard!
Frank Lampard has been unable to find another job in management since Everton, his career in management at any meaningful level has been utterly chronic, dire, and it says everything for his reputation that the only jobs he could get after Derby were two basket cases in Chelsea and Everton, and naturally he crumpled in both.
The Derby days?
Even Michael Beale shone for QPR in England’s Championship, it’s nowhere NEAR Rangers or Premier League level, for either pressure or standard, so the notion that Lampard’s Derby spell is evidence for how he could do at Rangers is utterly ridiculous.
Plus even THERE he choked when it came to securing promotion anyway.
So no no no – Frank Lampard is a million miles off being good enough to manage Rangers. Someone being a player for a giant like Chelsea doesn’t mean they’re good enough automatically to manage at that level – it’s a completely different ball game.
Clement?
He was a reasonable player but for Brugge, in Belgium – nowhere near the level of pressure of Rangers and they win nowhere near the titles. That was the peak of his playing career.
And as manager, same place.
He doesn’t know pressure in football, not properly, and he’s caved at Rangers under pressure. Simple as.
But this doesn’t mean we want Frank Lampard, goodness no.
But maybe Souness was right in that that he didn’t pick Clement.
Because it looks like Ibrox Noise was wrong about a new manager yet again.
Maybe we should just shut up.
