Rangers have officially completed their first summer signing after transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed Jefte will sign for Philippe Clement’s side following January preparation for the summer capture.

As we all know, when Romano says ‘here we go’, it is as official as it gets, and this one is done, and Jefte will replace the outgoing Borna Barisic as Rangers’ new left back.

The Brazilian defender, 20, is/was owned by Fluminese, but did rather well with loan club Cypriots APOEL so much so that it alerted Philippe Clement and his scouting staff after the lad’s numbers in a reasonably decent league.

This is a division with Anorthosis, Limassol, and Larnaca so there’s a bit of strength in there, and Jefte bagged 7 goals and assists in 33 appearances, which is not half bad for a defender at his age.

The hope is he will provide solid competition for current first choice Ridvan, with the potential for his taking that slot if he impresses enough.

He is regarded as a £1M defender, which is said to be the rough fee Rangers are paying, but we imagine more will come out about that in due course.

Romano said:

“Rangers are set to complete deal to sign Brazilian LB Jefté, confirmed and here we go!

Understand Jefté is on his way to complete the medical tests and sign the contract as new Rangers player.

As revealed in January, Scottish side prepared it all for the summer window.”

So assuming he passes all the medical and the paperwork is completed, Jefte will be confirmed Rangers’ first summer signing.

It’s not quite Marcelo, true, but if we want to judge Clement on his own players, well, Jefte will join Fabio Silva, Mohamed Diomande and Oscar Cortes as the Belgian’s own built team.

We will Jefte the best of luck in his new career at Rangers.
