Clement confirms practically 50% of Rangers’ squad out injured for cup final

Rangers’ injury list has continued with further additions to the depleted squad that will face Celtic next weekend, as Croat Borna Barisic was confirmed as out for the season on top of pretty much everyone else.

The current blight sees Ryan Jack and Abdallah Sima as only now bench-worthy for the next while, neither being able to start and only a couple of minutes here and there being possible, but the chaos elsewhere is ridiculous:

John Souttar, Borna Barisic, Leon Balogun, Connor Goldson, John Lundstram, Tom Lawrence, Oscar Cortes, Alex Lowry, Danilo and Rabbi Matondo will all be at best 50/50, or downright unavailable (most of them didn’t train) meaning the resources continue to be absolutely dreadful for the Old Firm cup final in 8 days’ time.

We’re not sure about Dujon Sterling’s status. Ridvan Yilmaz will not start and Kemar Roofe is unlikely to feature again.

What we know is this is exactly the same injury nightmare, arguably worse, than what derailed Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s second season, with a squad down to the bare bones and a manager now absolutely exasperated by the problems he’s inherited.

He cut a deeply frustrated figure on Friday, a lot of shrugging in disbelief, a few pouts of annoyance, and general helplessness for the utter mess of Rangers’ squad.

It really is a shambles, and Clement admitted this is the end of the road for the current ‘version’ of the club, both squad and staff.

Changes will happen this summer, big changes, and maybe we’ll see an end to this utterly farcical injury hell Rangers have gotten locked into.
