Borna Barisic has moved closer in on his Rangers exit after agreeing a deal with Trabzonspor, with the Turks losing out on John Lundstram following his wage demands.

The Croat’ agent travelled to Trabzon in January, where negotiations started for a potential summer move to the Super Lig side, and after the Lundstram discussions fell through, Trabzonspor now appear very close to getting their (other) man.

It had been intended as a double deal from Rangers, a massive Bosman coup for Trabzonspor but after the moves towards Lundstram collapsed, the eggs are entirely in the Barisic basket now.

The one issue is why Barisic hasn’t just agreed a precontract given he’s leaving for sure this summer, but the truth is he is still hoping for a better deal elsewhere first, before committing to Turkey.

After the lesson of ex-Ibrox winger Ryan Kent’s absolute disaster this season in moving there, Rangers players are a little more canny about Turkey and aren’t mega enthusiastic about taking that direction.

Ergo Barisic is holding off from downright signing a deal until he absolutely does not get a better offer elsewhere in Europe.

He is an experienced Croatian international with a market value of about £6M give or take, and Rangers have lost that cash thanks to the predictable mismanagement of assets, something we’ve done for years.

So someone stands to gain from our lack of financial prudence there, and whether it’s Trabzonspor or anyone else, it’s a bitter pill.

There were Roma rumbles but with their new manager replacing Jose Mourinho some months ago, and his progress in Serie A pretty obvious, they have no interest in Barisic now.

We’ll see if Barisic does pen on the Trabzonspor dotted line or not.
